Legacy

This bookcase
my father built,
rhythms of brushwork
frozen in paint,
cadence of hammer
captured in pine,
alloy of DNA
and dark-stained wood
varnished with sweat
of hot summer weekends,
reliquary of shrink-wrapped
engineering tomes,
should he return
to peruse them some day.
As I See It
